Best fans for sleeping (UK)
What actually matters for a hot bedroom at night.
Most fan guides lead with wattage or features. For sleep, only one thing matters: noise. A fan that's running loudly at 3am will keep you awake regardless of how well it moves air.
Look for fans rated below 40dB on their lowest setting. Most cheap fans are 50–55dB — audible enough to disturb light sleepers. DC motor fans are almost always quieter than AC equivalents and use 70–80% less electricity.
Other things that help
Fan position: on the floor pointing upward moves cooler air more effectively than a desk fan blowing across a warm room. A fan in a doorway with windows open at the opposite end of the flat creates real cross-ventilation.
Timer vs all-night: most people fall asleep within 20 minutes when cool enough. A fan with a 1–2 hour timer saves electricity and avoids waking at 4am to turn it off. The ANSIO has an 8-hour timer built in.
Also worth trying: a cooling pillow addresses the thing fans can't — heat trapped in your bedding. Used together, the difference is noticeable.
